Water sustains all life on Earth, and fostering an early appreciation for its preservation is crucial. In collaboration with the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong, we launched the “Cherishing Water” program—an immersive STEAM-based initiative that blends hands-on experiments, cutting-edge technology, and real-world applications to teach children about water purification and conservation.
Through interactive STEAM workshops, young learners become environmental scientists for a day, constructing their own eco-friendly water filters while discovering the science behind purification. These activities sharpen their problem-solving, observation, and critical thinking skills, turning theory into tangible learning. The experience extends beyond the classroom with a visit to the Water Supplies Department’s H2OPE Centre, where dynamic exhibits like “Water + Recycling” (showcasing rainwater reuse) and “Water + Quality” (demonstrating filtration processes) bring innovation to life, sparking curiosity about sustainable water solutions.
By merging experiential learning with technological exploration, the program doesn’t just educate—it inspires. Children have a deeper understanding of water’s journey from source to tap and a sense of responsibility and excitement for how science and sustainability can shape a better future.
